Kindergarten CCSS links now ready!

Just a quick note to let you know that the sister blog to

The links on the Kindergarten CCSS links blog might be great for review work stations at the beginning of first grade! Can’t wait until both blogs are full of free, useful links! Remember that if you link a freebie to your blog, most likely it will lead to other “clicks” around your blog for more great resources! Click the link below to go there right now to check it out:

Shoes and Quackers

You’re on the playground and a little one comes along and says, “Teacher, look at my new shoes!” and then you’ve got 10 more kids running toward you with the same request. I have to admit, they’ve got some really cute shoes!

Mrs. Tab has created a really cool unit on shoes! She is so right when she said that kids adore their shoes and at the beginning of the year they adore their brand new shoes! Well, there’s the motivation for the students to learn graphing and such using the topic of shoes.

She created a unit so go check it out!image

One of my favorite children's books is

Q Is for Duck: An Alphabet Guessing Gameimage

Since I am moving to first grade, I’ll be able to use this book in my classroom! It really helps kids think outside the box when it comes to alphabet books. I also want to do an activity where the students come up with their own ideas for an unusual abc book that we can compile as a class.

Heads Up!

    Vistaprint linky party

Nancy over at The Apple Basket Teacher is have a Vistaprint linky party and since I just receive my first order from them I have to share! All first grade classrooms use the themes of monkeys and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom ABC.

I leave my school keys all over the school so this will help them have a more speedy return to me!

    image

I PICK rack cards for my students when they choose books for their book boxes.

    image

Instead of a ‘desk fairy’ I guess you could say I have a ‘desk monkey’! These are business cards.

    image

    Teacher’s desk pad

    image

A ‘lawn’ sign to put in my classroom library for reminders.

    image

Window decal for my room door

    image

Return label stickers for the students doing ‘good’

    image

I will write the students names on these and will put these on my magnetic board to keep track of groups.

    image

We grade by 3,2, or 1 so I can just stamp these on as students and parents adapt to this grading

    image

This is a banner that I totally lifted from someone else (if it’s yours please let me know so that I can give you credit). This is from the ebook Clip Chart System by Rick Morris here.

    image

My plan for this coffee cup is to use it for student names on tongue depressors and I will choose students randomly to be called on during class.

    So, there’s my Vistaprint haul!

Linky Party Invitation: "Welcome Students" letters/notes

Ok, now I will be a new first grade teacher this coming year, and I will soon be receiving my postcards to send to my students. The postcards will have a note welcoming my students to my first grade class. What do I write? How do I write it? We are talking first grade here so should I write it in a way that the student might be able to read it or write it assuming the parent reads it to them? What about a rebus-style note?

Here is where you come in. I need your help. Join this linky party and let us know your grade level, what you write, how you write it, and if you use any special formats (postcards from a printing company, perhaps?). Show me what you got! I can't wait!

P.S. This is my first linky party! TIA for showing some love :)

Looking for a Daily 5 primer?

Well, head on over to Castles and Crayons! Mrs. B starts with her own Daily 5 schedule and each of the categories, from how to introduce it, build and maintain. Lots of great info. I love to see many takes on Daily 5 and how teachers implement it in their individual classrooms.

    Fav Font Linky Party!

I'm going to participate at my first linky party! Finally in First is having a linky party!

I have many favorite fonts for many different categories. The fonts I share now are ones that are good for cutting out and enlarging. I used the first font for my bulletin board last year in my Toy Story theme.

    AlphaClouds at dafont
    Infinity Formula at urban fonts

    I love freebies!

Makin' Cute Blogs is what I used to design my blog. This is the first blog I've created with my own designed header. Since I've dabbled a little in digital scrapbooking it wasn't too difficult for me. I also have Windows 7 with the snip tool to easily save anything I created into a png file to insert as a picture for my created header. The digital elements I used were from digital freebies from Rhonna Farrer and Shabby Princess. I'm not sure if they are available freebies any longer but there are other freebie digital scrapbook kits to search for on the web.

    Special delivery

I awoke this morning with a gush of excitement! I am the new parent of a blog! A blog for me and my preparations for my upcoming "baby"--my FIRST first grade classroom! I hope you find some nuggets of goodness here.
